Day 19: As I was saying

Day 19 of 30 Days of Intonation: As I was saying

For Day 19 of 30 Days of Intonation, we're looking at a useful phrase that you can use to keep someone listening to you:

As I was saying

This is one of the most useful expressions you can use in conversations in English, which is why I chose to include it in this program.

Learning how to use it with appropriate tone will help you connect in conversations in English!

In this video, I explain how to use holding intonation with transition expressions to signal that you're going to continue to talk.

Remember, you want to keep your intonation light and friendly as you transition back into what you were saying.

However, at times, if you've been interrupted rudely, you may want to indicate your annoyance or frustration through your tone.

After all, we often use tone to indicate how we really feel even if we need to maintain professional language!

This is one of my favorite uses of intonation, so be sure to practice the pattern.

You'll find people interrupt you less if you use your tone to keep them listening and engaged!
