Day 23: As you know

Day 23 of 30 Days of Intonation: As you know

For Day 23 of 30 Days of Intonation, we examine one of my favorite professional expressions:

As you know

In the video, you'll learn to use this transition expression with neutral intonation so that you can flow effortlessly into your main point.

I also describe how to keep someone listening to what you're about to say by using holding intonation. Keeping your tone high signals to your listener that you're not done speaking yet.

Combining holding intonation with this phrase is particularly powerful during meeting and presentations when you need to refer back to something you've previously discussed.

You may also need to use this expression to alert your listener that you're about to criticize them for an oversight or mistake that they made. Remember, falling intonation indicates authority.

Last but not least, I talk about how a steep drop in tone can preface scolding or a punishment if someone has blatantly ignored the rules or orders.

Choosing light and friendly intonation can make a big difference - if you drop on this phrase, it sounds like a warning!
