Day 15: You should go

Day 15 of 30 Days of Intonation: You should go

For Day 15 of 30 Days of Intonation, we look at a short sentence that clearly demonstrates why you need to consider tone:

You should go

We start off with neutral sentence intonation so that you can hear how this sentence sounds normally.

From there, we look at using rising intonation to express enthusiasm to encourage the other person to go and do what is being suggested.

Next, we look at three ways that you can shift the information focus, or the most important word stress, in order to show contrast, to emphasize the suggestion, and to show authority.

Last, I explain how you can stress each word of the sentence to "punctuate" the sentence if you need to make a strong demand.
